Working principle of Milling

In the field of machine tools and machining operations, milling  machine holds its place for producing surfaces and contours.

Milling is a basic machining process by which a surface is generated  by feeding a workpiece against a rotating cutter to remove material in the form of chips. In nearly all cases, a multiple-tooth cutter is used so that the material removal rate is high.

The cutting tool used in milling is known as a milling cutter. The cutter is mounted on a spindle (arbor) that rotates at high speed. The workpiece is clamped to the table.
