What is column and strut ? What is the difference between column and strut?

In the field of structural engineering column or strut is the compression member.

  • Column is a vertical structural member having uniform cross section throughout its length and subjected to an axial compressive load.

               Whereas strut is a horizontal or inclined structural member subjected to an axial compressive load. Normally struts are used in roof trusses and bridges.
